When someone has gone above and beyond the call of duty, sometimes a thank you note just doesn't seem like enough. While a written note is a good beginning, some people might want to do something more to acknowledge the good deed that was done. Yet when it actually comes time to think of what might work, it can be hard to come up with something. Any of these suggestions might be appropriate depending on the likes and dislikes of your friends, family or coworkers.
Idea #1: A Relaxing Thank-You
If the person did something like house sit or pet sit for you, a massage or other pampering treatment might be a good way to show your thanks. House sitting can often be stressful, and a massage is the natural way to relax. If the person you're thanking is also particularly keen on massages, this can be a good way to express gratitude regardless. Make sure that it's something the recipient will enjoy – not everyone enjoys this type of pampering.
Idea #2: An Enjoyable Dinner At Great BBQ Restaurants
This idea tends to go over well with virtually everyone you would want to thank. Particularly if you live in the south, there are many great BBQ restaurants to choose from. Almost everyone enjoys BBQ ribs, but if you're not confident in that choice, just look for a spot that has all you can eat options with complete with a salad bar. BBQ restaurants typically have a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, allowing you to express your thanks through BBQ ribs without worrying that you've made your guest uncomfortable by doing too much.
Idea #3: A Thank You Present
If you're looking for something slightly more permanent than all you can eat BBQ ribs, bring the person a gift. This works particularly well if you've been away somewhere and they've been helping maintain things at home. You can bring them back a travel souvenir and help make them feel as though they were a part of your trip. However, gifts don't have to be restricted to travel. If you know of something that they've wanted, you should go ahead and purchase it as a thank you gift. Just be sure it's not something too big, which could potentially overwhelm your friend and make them feel uncomfortable.
Gifts Don't Replace A Note!
Always send notes, even if you're giving a gift – or even taking your friend to BBQ restaurants! Thank you notes are an increasingly uncommon thing in today's world, and a lot of people miss them. It's something that shows just how much you really appreciated what they did for you, which is no small thing to consider. In general, you'll want to send the note off as quickly as possible. If you're giving them a gift immediately, it's OK to have the note accompany a gift. If you're meeting for all you can eat BBQ ribs later that week, send the note sooner rather than waiting.
When you combine an old fashioned note with one of the new ways to say thank you, you'll show the person who helped you just how touched you really were!
